This is not meant to be snotty, but is it legal to use someone's image without their approval, even if it is a characature, if it's for profit? I'm honestly curious, I remember in highschool wanting to enter a painting in a competition but I couldn't because I'd done it from a photo that I took of people that I didn't know so I couldn't get their permission. That could have been the rules of that particular contest though.

It is a pretty sweet design
From what I know by altern8 on Monday, December 29, 2008 at 10:51 PM
it depends on the copyness of the image. Like if I take an exact scene from a movie and produce it, that would be a no no, Or if I'd put Pulp fiction or sam L Jackson in text or big kahoona burger on the cup, would be grounds for copyright in-fridge-mints. I as understand the law recreating with flare is Ok. Plus a multi millionaire like any of the above mentioned or studios came after us small time artists, it would be like a personal fight for hating your image or you are in tandem with a really large profitable company. I say don't worry and draw, like the countless muralist that have disney images on their websites as examples.
